An important component of any ornamental plant care program is proper fertilization. If a plant does not receive the right nutrients, the plant will not be as strong as it should be to survive the annual stresses caused by drought and harsh winters. A vigorously growing plant is not only beautiful to look at, but also able to maintain a higher level of good health by naturally resisting insect and disease attacks. A regular fertilization program with a balanced nutrient blend will maintain a naturally deeper root system that helps a plant survive prolonged drought periods with more roots to absorb needed nutrients and water.

The ideal time to fertilize ornamental trees & shrubs is when the plants are dormant (early spring or late fall). The fertilizer is injected about 6 inches deep, under pressure in a grid pattern. The fertilizer is injected around the tree's base and under the entire drip line. Since the fertilizer is injected under pressure, it spreads horizontally through the soil and provides a uniform amount of balanced nutrients to the entire root system. Naturally occurring soil microbes begin to breakdown the fertilizer to provide a slow, controlled nutrient release that benefits your ornamental trees and shrubs.
